GENERAL TRIP INFO

Arapaima Gigas is our specialty, and the virtually untouched river system and lagoons we have access to are absolute prime habitat for the Arapaima; It is not rare for us to catch 2m / 250 pds + specimens and if you are looking for a potential world record, you can be sure they are around! Wether it be on lure, fly or bait, targeting those fish is no problem for us. Spinning, casting and fly fishermen alike are welcome to visit and fish those exclusive, pristine waters.
We work in partnership with the only two communities in the area, hardworking, isolated natives who have been living there for centuries, giving us exclusivity to the vast majority of the close to 200 000 hectares of land they own and take care of.
The sportsfishing project gives them an economical alternative to now widespread and normlalized extrativism practices like commercial fishing, hunting and logging and hence promote conservation and awareness for the present and the future.

Most of the trips normally include 2 days of multi-species fishing for diversity and just plain fun. We aim for sought-after ferocious and strong fighters wichichever species they may be. Those include; Peacock Bass (Cichla Monoculus), Pacu (Colossoma macropomum), Yamu (Brychon Hilarii), Multiple kinds of piranhas and many, many more
Our comfy lodge acts as basecamp for day trips to closer lagoons and rivers. While sometimes we venture on longer expeditions in deeper unexplored areas where camping is needed, you can leave your extra gear in your room that way you can travel lighter. Most of the camping sites are large platforms lifted from the ground with with a nice roof, a kitchen area, bathroom, shower and where the ground is cleared all around.

Frequently Asked Questions

1When is the best time of year to come fishing?
The fishing season at our location is from early September to end of February.
This corresponds to the dry season where rain is rare and water level is generally very low. While this renders the access to some area harder, it concentrates the fish and makes fishing for most species way easier and more productive. It does not mean that it is imposible to experience rain level but overall; this is the best period and while it is possible to have higher water conditions, we will always do everything possible to get you on the fish and catch the fish of a lifetime.
2What tackle and gear should I bring?
Depending on which species you are looking for, there is quite a few recommendation for the rods you should bring. In most cases, you should atleast bring the 3 following setups.
In the case of our number one species, Arapaima, distance and precision in the casts plus power and resistance of the material are the most important factor we are looking for in our rod & reel combo. If you plan on bringing only one rod, we recommend a longer rod, between 7’4” to 8’ (2m20-2m40), H or XH with a pretty big matching 5500-6500 size spinning reel with a powerful drag as setup. Your reel should be spooled with 80 pounds to 100 pounds (36-45 kilos) quality braid to allow for casting distance but also for power to be the one in charge during the fight. As leader we use anywhere from 80 pounds to 120 pounds (36-55 kilos) mono or fluoro leader.
For peacock bass, and general multispecies setup, a MH spinning paired with a size 4000 spinning reel spooled with 30 pounds (13 kilos) braid is recommended. While it may seem a bit big, often times there will be obstacles around; mostly sunken dead wood or flooded jungle where the fish will instantly head for cover. You must be able to turn those powerful fighters and withstand the the abuse of the line sometimes rubbing on the wood. As for leader, 20 to 25 pounds (9-11 kilos) fluoro leader.
When specificically aiming for Pacu, a Heavy rod with a 4500-5000 reel spooled with 50 to 60 pounds (23-27 kilos) braid is what you need, these are extremely powerful and explosive at the beginning of the fight, since they are often in tight spaces, you must really put lots of strength on them and this setup will allow you to do just this.
In the case of other types of fishing (Catfish, casting rods, specifically casting floats for arapaima) you can send us a message with the contact form above the FAQ section and we will gladly awnser all your questions. As for all of the lures and terminal tackle information, we will send you a detailed list of the best angler&arapaima-approved products on the market upon reservation.
3What form of payment is accepted?
With the difficulties of accessing more modern bank features in South America, we currently only accept the following payment methods:
Bank Wire
Transfer via Wise app or website.
We will soon be implementing Paypal and payment platform directly on the website.
Sorry for the inconvenience and hope to be able to offer you more accesible payment options in the future.
4Do you rent any tackle at the Lodge?
We do not normally offer the service as every customer should come with their own tackle but, in specific cases, like if the angler breaks his rod or reel, us guides will gladly rent our personal tackle to allow the angler to keep being able to fish for any given species.
Note that we also have a small selection of the most productive lures and we are currently working on our own custom baits made and tailored for the local waters, keep an eye open for these wonders!
5Is there a laundry service at the Lodge?
The local families and community with whom we work locally with gladly take care of all the laundry you may have, an additional fee will be charged in relation to the amount of clothes to be cleaned. We don’t weight them as normally they are wet or humid and will be heavier than normal.
It is to mention that the clothes will be handwashed and if some pieces needs special care, you must inform us prior.
6Isn't the Amazon dangerous?
Unfortunately, the Amazon has always been depicted as this hostile, dangerous, inhabitable place full of all kinds of very dangerous creatures ready to attack, bite and sting you in any given moment. This is very far from the truth. While many insects, plants and animals can pose some kind of threat for us (mostly painful stings), literally only a few species of snakes are deadly. These will not attack human if it doesnt feel threathened and are extremely rarely seen. In the last decade, within hundreds of friends, many local communities and thousands of tourists and anglers, we have heard of a single case of dangerous snake bite, we would worry more about getting run over by a car in the middle of a big city.
As for insects, your worst enemy will be the mosquitoes around the Lodge and basecamp at night which you can prevent using long clothes and using insect repellent; on the water and during the daytime we won’t encounter any. Ants which can bite and sting are sometimes a concern and bothering when we are in the jungle itself but as anglers we will spend most of our time either at cabins, basecamp or on the water.
Most insects live in their house; The jungle floor and vegetation, which we don’t have to worry about, but as tourism operator which also offer eco-tourism, hike and camping adventures, we assure you that they pose no threat. Once in a while spiders are found in or around the cabins, if you need some help let us know and we will gladly take them out and put them back in their natural environment.
When in the water to land and take picture with your fish, you will be in lagoons where piranhas, caimans and electric eels are to be found. The eel can be an issue but the guide who jumps in first will spook any wandering around, piranhas are surprisingly not agressive at all and we don’t know of anybody who’s been bitten by one (if you are bleeding do not jump in!), and the last animal is the Black caiman. It has a very passive temper, unlike crocs in different places of the world, and is virtually only active during night time, the rest of the guides will keep an eye open to see if any is around but worry not. As a general rule of thumb, you can trust the locals, and if they tell you something is or is not a threat, they know, they and their ancestors have been living here for centuaries, and they do not fear the caimans, often swimming, adults and kids alike, in rivers and lagoons where they are abundant.
Bottom line is, you will feel comfortable going around and will enjoy your stay without even thinking about all what we have mentioned above. It is a pity that in documentary, tv shows and books they depicts the animals and insects here as blood-thirsty dangerous beings when in reality they are animals quietly living in their home.
7Are there any tropical disease I should worry about?
The most important tropical diseases that are present in the Amazon are Malaria, Yellow fever and Dengue fever. To this we can add more wide-spread diseases like Hepatitis, Typhoid and Tetanus.
While it is a rare occurrence, all those diseases are present and we recommend you get fully vaccinated.
Malaria is not an issue in the area we are in and no cases have been reported in a long time, if you want to take preventive medicine for Malaria you can but it is not a necessity.
Since the only way to protect yourself from Dengue Fever is to protect yourself from mosquitoes, we recommend the same techniques for prevention of Malaria. You should use long and somewhat floppy clothes and make usage of mosquito repellent as soon as they are present.
Overall, with the correct vaccines and clothes, you should have no issue with any tropical disease.
